Sharsheret was founded in 2001 by Ms. Shoretz, a former law clerk to U.S Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Rochelle recognized the need for a breast cancer organization sensitive to the cultural needs of Jewish women and families after her own diagnosis at age 28.  In 2010 Rochelle was appointed to the Federal Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women under the auspices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
